There are numerous opinions online about the best sequence for mowing, trimming, and edging a lawn—should you mow first, then edge and trim, or follow a different order? It might seem complicated, but it doesn’t have to be. Here’s a simple approach:

Step 1: Customize Your Approach

Begin by servicing the yard in a way that suits its specific needs. My preferred method is to edge first, then trim, blow debris back onto the lawn, mow, and finally, blow the lawn again if needed. Depending on the growth of the grass, you might not need to blow until the end or skip edging entirely. The most important thing is to adapt your approach based on the lawn’s condition and how frequently you service it. Experiment with different methods to find what works best for each situation.

Step 2: Request Client Feedback

After completing the service, check in with your client to ensure they are satisfied. You can do this by ringing the doorbell, making a phone call, sending a text, or emailing them. While it’s not necessary to seek feedback after every visit, doing so initially and periodically will help you understand their preferences and any adjustments they may want. If a client is not completely satisfied, ask for specific feedback and make the necessary changes. Embracing constructive criticism is a great way to improve and refine your service.

Step 3: Adjust Based on Feedback

If the client is pleased with the service and you’re happy with your work, continue using the same approach for future visits. If there are areas for improvement based on client feedback, address them promptly to ensure their satisfaction.

In Summary

The order in which you mow, trim, and edge can vary depending on the lawn’s condition and your personal approach. Focus on delivering high-quality service, actively seek client feedback, and make adjustments as needed. This approach will help you provide exceptional service and keep your clients happy.
